Welcome to the start of my Final Major Project as part of my BA(Hons)Fashion : Media & Promotion course.
The concept for my FMP is inspired by the womens magazine market, and the lack of variety that there is in certain areas. It also stems of my personal interests and the need for being able to show the skills I've gained throughout my course.
So.. I plan to create a womens lifestyle magazine with a focus on sport, fashion and design. Alongside the magazine will be a website that combines the images from the printed title as well as short films that further explore each article and editorial.
The content focus of the magazine will be on womens boardsports and the lifestyle that goes with it. Unlike most womens sports magazines the content will be a lot less technical and illustrate the womens market, where sport doesn't just appeal to a certain type of woman. It will demonstrate that women can be interested in sports such as surfing, skating, snow sports and cycling whilst retaining a keen interest in fashion and creative design.
With the target readers interests in mind the magazine will have a strong sense of design to establish itself with a strong brand identity through print magazine, promotional packaging, website and social media. This also means I can demonstrate my skills in graphic design and layout and create a visually strong aesthetic throughout the brand.
Oh and the name 'Small Town' is just a working title because picking titles drives me insane! Although it kind of links in the way that these big womens sport magazines never seem very small town and don't seem to appeal to 'the girl next door' so maybe it'll stick. Oh, and I'm from a Small Town so there's the justification for that.
